Dan Vedra, Member
Dan Vedra is a lawyer who is passionate about helping individuals and businesses solve complicated problems and achieve results. Currently, Dan focuses his practice on consumer litigation. This includes lawsuits under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth in Lending Act, and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.
Prior to forming Vedra Law LLC and its predecessor, Dan worked for a boutique real estate and commercial law firm in downtown Denver. He represented commercial landlords, property managers, receivers, private and institutional lenders, and individual investors in both transactional and litigated matters involving real estate.
During law school, Dan worked for the University of Denver Environmental Law Clinic as a student attorney. He extensively litigated a lawsuit against a large utility for violations of the Clean Air Act. He acted as a teaching assistant for Contract, Torts, and Criminal Law. He participated in the Wills Lab, which assists indigent individuals in estate planning. He also drafted a Citizen’s Guide to the Colorado Public (Open) Records Act (CORA).
Dan graduated from University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He was awarded the Order of St. Ives for graduating in the top ten percent of his class. He earned Scholastic Excellence Awards for the top grades in Torts, Civil Procedure, and Real Property. He earned his undergraduate degree in economics and history from the University of Colorado.
Dan enjoys cycling, skiing, snowboarding, soccer, running, and music. He is married and has a son, a daughter, a Labrador Retriever, and a cat.
Kate Russell, Associate
Kate Russell is an attorney who has focused her legal practice around the belief that all individuals should have access to quality legal representation, regardless of their financial status. She enjoys the complex problem solving involved in consumer law and feels very lucky to have found a way to practice what she loves while helping people with difficult legal issues.
Prior to joining Vedra Law LLC, Kate was an attorney with the Consumer Law Unit of Colorado Legal Services and, prior to that, worked with the Consumer Protection Unit of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. She has extensive experience with complex mortgage issues, including foreclosure law. She has also worked with various debt collectors on behalf of her clients and has experience with bankruptcy law and contract law. During her time at Legal Services, Kate represented consumers dealing with fraudulent loans and various debt collection issues.
Kate originally hails from Washington, DC and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both her undergraduate and law degrees. During law school, Kate logged over 150 pro bono hours, and was a member of the Broun National Trial Team as well as the Holderness Moot Court Environmental Negotiations Team. Kate spent the summer after her second year of law school participating in an honors seminar located in Kigali, Rwanda, dealing specifically with post-conflict judicial mechanisms. She then attended an international LL.M. program in the Netherlands with a focus on International Human Rights and Migration Law. While at UNC, Kate was also active with the Innocence Project and the Orange County Public Defender’s Office. Kate has always been passionate about human rights and social justice and feels lucky to have found a home in the consumer law world.
Kate lives in Evergreen, Colorado with her husband, their dog, Jed, and their three chickens, Keith, Oprah and Martha Stewart. She enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, yoga, UNC Basketball, and chocolate in any form.
